Four operation turnover

A game using all four of the operations. An opportunity for students to develop strategies for solving the four operations or working on their automatic recall of number facts.

Materials Needed:

* Two six sided dice

* A set of number cards per player numbered 1 – 12.

To Play:

This is a two player game.

1. Students set up by arranging their twelve cards in order on their playing surface, facing up.

2. Play one rolls the two dice and decides on an operation. They may add the two digits, subtract, multiply or divide (will not work with a remainder). After choosing the operation. They turn over the number card that is the result. eg if  a 2 and 5 was rolled and the player choose to add, 2+5=7, the 7 card would be turned over.

3. Students continue with this taking in turns.

4. Once a card is turned over, it can not be used again. The aim of the game is to be the first player to turn over all 12 cards.

Angles in the environment

Students can use ipads, ipods or other devices to take photos of angles in their environment. Apps such as Doodle Buddy can be used which allows students to highlight the angle using the drawing tools. They could also write in the name of the angle and add their name or initials. We have students airdrop these photos to the teacher ipad for evidence and assessment.

Picture Angles

Students use 2D attribute shape blocks to create a picture or students design their own picture. Angle activities could involve:

1. Using a highlighter to identify where their are angles.

2. Compare the size of different angles and label.

3. Label and name the angles.

4. Measure the angles using a protractor and label with the angles name and degrees.

5. Add vertically opposite angles to your picture and label.

6. Add angles around a point to your picture, measure and label to ensure it adds to 360 degrees.

Matchstick Angles

Using pop sticks or match sticks, students can create angles. Differentiate this activity by:

1. Students compare the size of he angle.

2. Create half and full turns and label.

3. Compare each angle to a right angle and label. eg. larger than a right angle.

4. Identify, name and label the angles.

5. Measure the angles with a protractor, record the degrees and label.
